The National Forests Act 84 of 1998 reforms South Africa's law relating to forests and establishes the framework for managing and protecting the country's forest resources. It provides rules concerning forests and related matters and replaced several earlier pieces of forestry legislation. The Act has been amended by the National Forest and Fire Laws Amendment Act 12 of 2001, Forestry Laws Amendment Act 35 of 2005 and National Forests Amendment Act 1 of 2022
