South Africa's Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997

The Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997 establishes minimum conditions of employment in South Africa and gives effect to the constitutional right to fair labor practices. It covers working hours, overtime, meal intervals, rest periods, leave, remuneration, termination of employment, employment of children, forced labor and procedures for monitoring and enforcing employment conditions. The Act also provides for sectoral determinations and establishes responsibilities for labor inspectors and other institutions involved in enforcing employment standards.
