This law sets the legal framework for cooperatives in Rwanda. It covers the principles, types and categories of cooperatives; how primary cooperatives, unions, federations and confederations are established and organised; and the powers and responsibilities of their governing and executive organs. It also provides rules on membership, share capital, legal personality, registration, beneficial ownership information, and other obligations of cooperatives. The law replaces the earlier 2021 law governing cooperatives in Rwanda. The official text was published in the Official Gazette No. 28 Bis of 8 July 2024.
