The National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act provides for the management and conservation of South Africa's biodiversity. It protects species and ecosystems requiring national protection, promotes sustainable use of indigenous biological resources, regulates benefit-sharing from bioprospecting and establishes functions for the South African National Biodiversity Institute.
