The Immigration Act 13 of 2002 provides the legal framework for the admission of people into South Africa, their residence in the country and their departure from the Republic. It establishes rules governing immigration control and the responsibilities and procedures associated with the movement and residence of foreign nationals. The Act has been amended by later legislation, including the Immigration Amendment Acts of 2004, 2007, 2011 and 2016, as well as laws addressing issues such as trafficking and corruption.
