Electronic Communications Act 36 of 2005

The Electronic Communications Act 36 of 2005 provides the legal framework for electronic communications, telecommunications and broadcasting in South Africa. It regulates electronic communications services and networks, licensing, radio frequency spectrum, broadcasting services, interconnection, infrastructure, consumer issues and universal access. The Act also provides for the continued operation of institutions responsible for universal service and access to communications. It has been amended by later legislation, including the Electronic Communications Amendment Acts of 2007 and 2014 and the Electoral Matters Amendment Act 14 of 2024.
