Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996

The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 is the supreme law of the country and provides the legal foundation for its democratic government. It sets out the structure and powers of Parliament, the President and national executive, provinces, local government and the courts, while also establishing institutions that support constitutional democracy. Chapter 2 contains the Bill of Rights, covering rights including equality, human dignity, freedom of expression, political participation, education, health care, housing, food, water, social security and environmental protection. The Constitution also addresses public administration, security services, traditional leadership, public finance and the distribution of governmental powers.
